Ministry of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has assured to resign from his position if the issue of illegal expatriates in Maldives cannot be resolved under his administration.
Speaking at a press conference held to brief on the measures taken by the ministry to resolve the issue, Minister Fayyaz rejected claims accusing him of trading quotas for financial gain. In response to a question on what his reaction shall be should the efforts fail, Fayyaz said the outcome would be his resignation from the position if the administration has to face failure. Some measures include shifting responsibility of employment and quota approval from Maldives Immigration to Ministry of Economic Development.
With the recommendations from the cabinet, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to strengthen quota and employment approval systems to bring a solution to the illegal expatriate issues in Maldives.
