MPS Disciplinary Board dismisses officers implicated in Rilwan's case

The Disciplinary Board of Maldives Police Service (MPS) has decided to dismiss the two police officers who attempted to extract a passport copy of murdered journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla, with the intention of depicting that he died after travelling to join the Syrian civil war.

According to the police spokesperson, after deliberation the Disciplinary Board of Maldives Police Service has decided to dismiss both officers. According to the Police Regulation, officers who are dismissed in this manner would receive a duration of seven days to appeal the decision.

The decision would be final if and when the Commissioner of Police endorses the decision. Even at earlier instances MPS has assured, once the investigative report of the Presidential Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances is out, any instance of negligence on the part of the institution would be addressed. MPS vowed legal action against all found at fault.
