President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the growing civic awareness among students is a sign of hope for the future of the nation.
The President made the remarks during an informal meeting with students of Utheemu School, Haa Alif Atoll.
The students thanked the President for giving them the opportunity to celebrate National Day on their island for the second consecutive year. The President said he intends to visit the island again after completing the projects requested by its residents. During his meeting with the school students, the President also listened to their views regarding the installation of air conditioning at the school. The students noted that, since the classrooms had been air-conditioned, it had become easier to study.
During the meeting, one student expressed an interest in joining the national service programme after completing school. In response, the President shared some details of the training programme with the students. He said that one of the aims of the programme is to provide students with an additional pathway to pursue their future after completing school.
During the meeting with the students, a concern was also raised about the lack of a multipurpose hall at the school. The President said work was currently under way to make changes to the development of halls, and assured them that the school’s hall would also be developed.
The students expressed their gratitude for being given the opportunity to meet with the President and share their views. After listening to the students, the President said that having the opportunity to hear what young people have to say would bring happiness to anyone who cares about the nation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Dr Mohamed said that the outcome he wants is for students to achieve good results. He also noted that a number of useful points had emerged from the discussion.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has been meeting people involved in various fields during his visits to different islands across the Maldives. He has also been holding meetings to hear the concerns of island residents.
