Maldives to establish cultural centre in India

Ambassador of Maldives to India, Aishath Mohamed Didi has announced plans to establish a Maldivian Cultural Centre in India. She made the announcement, on PSM News's talk show Raajje Miadhu, Saturday night.

Noting that the country boasts a rich culture and history regardless of the relatively small population, Ambassador Aishath said, advertising Maldivian culture at the international stage could make Maldives an even more popular tourist destination. She noted, with Maldives a destination that is becoming increasingly popular in the Indian market, such exposure would lead to more tourists originating from India.

The Maldivian Cultural Centre in India is scheduled to come into operation next year, Ambassador Aishath said. On establishment, the centre, would enable interested parties to experience Maldivian history, culture, language and even cuisine.

Shedding light on India-Maldives ties, Ambassador Aishath said, with President Solih assuming power, difficulties that Maldivians had been facing in travelling to and from India, have been solved. She added, with the VISA agreement which came into effect in March, the number of grievances the embassy have been receiving regarding VISA related issues, have decreased drastically.
