We are straining to cater to increasing demand: MIFCO

Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has stated, the company has been buying fish without enforcing any controls. In a statement issued on Thursday, MIFCO stated, due to the great fishing that the northern areas have been experiencing, fishermen from all over the country have flocked to Lhaviyani atoll.

MIFCO attributed the difficulties that fishermen are facing in selling their catch, to the lack of facilities such as Felivaru Fisheries Maldives, at the northern islands. MIFCO however assured, the MIFCO vessels that were operating in the south have travelled up north cater to the increased demand in the north.

He added, the MIFCO vessels, although unable to cater to the demands of all the fishing vessels every day, would be giving tokens and catering buying their catch as soon as possible.
MIFCO advises such vessels to buy ice from the nearest ice plants keep their catch fresh until their vessels can reach them.
