MRM formulating party constitution and manifesto

Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), spearheaded by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, begins efforts to formulate the party charter and manifesto.

MRM officially applied for registration at the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) on August 22 with a total of 3,113 membership forms. The party would try to continue its work to formulate the party charter and the manifesto at the inaugural meeting. The party has started its discussions on formulating the party charter and the manifesto, even though a date for the inaugural convention has not been announced.

ECM registers a political party once it holds the inaugural convention with a minimum 300 members.

MRM, the third political party registered by the former president, will be registered under the leadership of Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Dhunya Maumoon, one of the two daughters of the former president.

The first political party formed under the leadership of Maumoon was Dhivehi Rayyithinge Party (DRP), registered in 2008. However, following disputes within the party, he later registered Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), the party that ruled the country for the past five years.

MRM is a coalition partner in the current government and its objective, as explained by the party, is to continue the reform movement initiated by Maumoon.
