Parliament asks for public opinion on Broadcom nominees

Parliament of Maldives has opened for public opinion on the nominees for Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).

President's Office had forwarded 36 nominees for the two vacant seats of Broadcom. The nominations forwarded by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih include key figures who have worked in media in the past and the present. In this regard, Shifla Ibrahim, Mohamed Hilmy, Ahmed Gais, Ali Yousuf, Amira Adam, Ahmed Fairooz, Jaufar Rasheed, Aishath Dhiyana Thahir, Sofa Saleem and Nafees Mohamed tops the list presented by the president.

The parliament urges the public to submit opinion before September 18, if there is any complaint concerning the proposed names.

The positions in Broadcom were left vacant following the resignation of Hassan Nabah and Ismail Sofwan.

Furthermore, Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has also approved to remove Fathimath Zeyna and Mohamed Shaheeb from the commission.
