Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has revealed it has received 6 nominations for the vacant position at Supreme Court.
JSC opened the opportunity to submit nominations to be appointed to the Supreme Court bench on August 30. The announcement came following the removal of Judge Abdulla Didi from the Supreme Court. His removal from the Supreme Court makes it the first time the parliament removed a judge citing recommendations from JSC after investigations found a judge was found guilty of corruption, accepting bribes and misconduct.
JSC said the nominations for the vacant position in Supreme Court included former Attorney General Dhiyana Saeed and former Deputy Prosecutor General Mariyam Nihayath. Furthermore, High Court Judges Ali Sameer, Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya, Mohamed Niyaz and Hassan Ali were the remaining nominations.
Meanwhile, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated Mahaz Ali Zahir to JSC regarding appointing him to the Supreme Court.
