Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham and Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed have met the Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances to discuss the murder case of journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla. The police commissioner is also expected to meet the Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services to further discuss the case.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to take necessary legal actions in light of the findings by the commission.
At a press conference held at the President's Office on September 1, head of the commission Husnu Al Suood revealed investigators have successfully identified the people who abducted and then murdered local journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla. He further stated the commission has acquired enough evidence to prosecute the culprits behind the murder of the journalist.
Rilwan was abducted near his residence in Hulhumale', taken to a boat, beheaded and thrown to the sea in August 2014, according to the summarised report compiled by the commission.
