Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath has ordered to arrest the two police intelligence service personnel who attempted to hinder the investigation on Ahmed Rilwan’s murder.
In a letter sent to Maldives Police Service, Attorney General Riffath ordered to take action against all individuals who were involved in the case. In this regard, he ordered for the arrest of Corporal Mohamed Jinah and Corporal Ibrahim Riffath under Article 133(E) of the Constitution of Maldives.
The attorney general noted three main points in the letter to the police. In this regard, he noted no action had been taken after the police received information on June 24, 2014 about a plan to abduct and drown two people. Further, he pointed not arresting the two police officers involved in the case might lead to an attempt to tamper with evidence or influence investigations.
On September 3, a press statement from the police service stated the Professional Standards command is questioning two officers who attempted to tamper with the evidence on Rilwan's case, adding necessary actions would be taken against the officers after the investigations.
Two officers attempted to fabricate evidence that Rilwan had died fighting in Syria, by trying to obtain a copy of his passport from Maldives Immigration, according to a summarised report compiled by Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances.
