Maldives request visa for Kaiban from Australia

Government of Maldives has stated it has requested the Government of Australia to grant visa for a Maldivian child to be deported from Australia due to health complications.

In a tweet, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid said he has discussed the issue with the Deputy Secretary of Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Richard Maude and gave a letter from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison and a letter from himself to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia Marise Payne, requesting to grant Kaiban Jamsheed visa on humanitarian grounds.

The Australia rejected visa for Kaiban due to the expenses the government has to bear for his medicals should Kaiban stay in Australia. His parents have taken the issue to authorities in Australia.

Kaiban Jamsheed suffers from Hemophilia which is a rare disorder in which his blood does not clot normally because it lacks sufficient blood-clotting proteins. In addition, some brain injuries were also evident at birth.

The family is concerned that while Maldives has no facilities to provide the medical services he needs and if he does not get the medical care and attention he currently does, his life will be at risk according to doctors.
