Minimum wage to be established after considering needs of youth

Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has assured minimum wage would be established after considering the needs of youth.

Speaking at the Youth Wing Conference organised by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the former president said the most complaint he has received over the years is the inadequate salaries received by youth. He maintained the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will ensure minimum wage would be established for the first time in Maldives and it will be meet the expectations of youth employees.

Furthermore, the parliament speaker noted youth makes up the majority of the population, adding the administration needs to solve the issue of the high number of unemployed youth. He said the exact number of unemployed youth is unclear, adding it is a further task for the administration.

Speaking on his vision for the development of Maldives, Nasheed said the natural resources of the country must be preserved and utilised in the development efforts.
