Only received a letter regarding appeal of Rilwan case: High Court

High Court has claimed it only received a letter from Prosecutor General's Office stating the wish to appeal the case of the abduction of former journalist Ahmed Rilwan.

Disagreement have taken place between High Court and Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham over the failure to appeal the case following the verdict of the Criminal Court. Commenting on the claims made by the prosecutor general, High Court said it only received a letter which mentioned the prosecutor general wishes to appeal the case and seeking permit to appeal the case once the report is filed.

In a circular issued by High Court on January 27, 2015, if anybody wishes to appeal a case after 10 days have passed since the verdict, the appeal must be filed with permission from the court.

Over concerns on the case of the abducted journalist Ahmed Rilwan and some other issues, Parliamentarian Moosa Siraj has submitted a motion to the MDP Parliamentary Group seeking to remove the sitting prosecutor general from the position.
