5 years since Rilwan's abduction, Presidential Commission considers revealing details before end of August

President of the Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances Husnu Al Suood has revealed the terrorist group responsible for the abduction journalist Ahmed Rilwan has been identified.

Acknowledging it has been 5 years since Rilwan was abducted at knife point in front of his house, Suood tweeted latest finding on the investigations. Noting Rilwan and his family is entitled to know what happened, he said the presidential commission has shared the latest findings with the family two weeks ago.

Moreover, Husnu Al Suood revealed the presidential commission has identified the group responsible for his abduction and those who participated in the horrific act, with sufficient evident to prosecute. He added the presidential commission is considering to reveal the details of the terrorist group before the end of August.

Furthermore, Suood said the abduction of Rilwan is under investigation, revealing the commission is working to verify and corroborate the information collected. He reiterated the commission will deliver on its promise to fully investigate all cases under investigation.

Although the state raised charges against three individuals over the case, the hearings of the case were held on only two of the alleged suspects, and while Criminal Court has ruled they are not guilty, one of the alleged suspects have fled the country.

Rilwan’s whereabouts since he was abducted in a red car on August 8, 2014 remains unknown.
