Ministry of Heritage, Arts and Culture has handed over managing, renovating and administering Kalhuvakaru Mosque to A-Man Maldives Private Limited.

The venture was signed by Minister of State Mohamed Thoriq and Chief Executive Director of A-Man Maldives Ibrahim Muhthalib. The project costing over USD 192,000 must be completed within 120 days.

Under the agreement, the company will complete civil works, including building the wall of mosque and constructing foundation of the well, building a wall identifying the mosque area, landscaping work in the mosque area, constructing the pavement and outdoor exhibition area of the mosque and electric wiring works, fire safety equipment installation, lighting, plumbing, paint works and laying white sand in the mosque area.

The mosque will be rebuilt and relocated by a special team formed by Heritage Department. The mosque will be relocated in the building where former Dhiraagu Head Office was located. The wood works and cleaning the lacquered parts are nearing completion, according to the heritage ministry.

Furthermore, the ministry said the aim is to complete the relocation of the mosque by the end of the year. The mosque will then be kept as a heritage site.

Kalhuvakaru Mosque was disassembled in 2016 to make way for a winter park.
