Following recommendations of the cabinet, President's Office has decided to submit papers regarding the participation of Maldives in the regional agreement to curb organised crime for parliament approval.
The agreement mainly focuses in sharing information of organised crimes and identifying the importance of protecting the integrity and sovereignty of nationals following the increased number of losses caused to countries in terms of economy, societal and political due to such crimes.
Under the agreement, regional countries will assist and provide technical assistance to each other within the constitutional guidelines in ways it will not affect the independence, sovereignty and integrity.
Moreover, a regional centre will be established named South Asia Regional Intelligence and Coordination Centre on Transnational Organised Crime in Sri Lanka to ease international operations. The agreement will be signed by Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
