Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided it is not mandated to determine the number of judges on the bench proceeding over cases in superior courts.
JSC said the decision was made as it is in the mandate of the chief judges of courts, in accordance with the Judicature Act of Maldives.
The decision comes following criticism from the opposition on the ongoing case against former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom at Criminal Court of Maldives, which is proceeded by a single judge.
