Abdul Maaniu Hussain has won the poll held to elect a representative from Maldives Bar Council to Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Maaniu, a lawyer by profession, won the election with 199 votes, which is 50.13% of the votes. The election was contested by five candidates. His closest opponent, Ali Rasheed received 124 votes, which is 31.23%.
Although 1,487 lawyers were eligible to vote in the election, votes were cast by only 404 lawyers.
This is the first election held by the newly formed Maldives Bar Council which is the regulatory body for all legal profession related issues.
