Opposition calls on Government not to comprise Independence of Maldives

The opposition coalition made up of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) has called on the government not to comprise the independence of Maldives for personal benefit or political gain.

In a statement commemorating the 54th Independence Day of Maldives, the PPM-PNC coalition said the feeling that Maldives has ceded freedom over the past few months is a dangerous signal for the future of the country.

The opposition coalition said the economy and the policies of the country should be determined by Maldivians, adding no foreign party should have a say when Maldives shape up its future. The coalition further called on the government to treat all citizens equally and not be influenced by foreign powers.
