President assures to maintain basic rights and independence for Maldivians

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has underscored he does not believe Maldivians must experience a single moment that the basic rights, ensured by the constitution and the independence, are snatched ever again, assuring to maintain the independence of the country.

Delivering the national address commemorating the Independence Day of Maldives, President Solih reminisced the courageous efforts and sacrifices made by the heroes of Maldives in gaining the independence celebrated by the nation today. The president stated all achievements are backed by the courage and spirit of the people.

Furthermore, the president noted times have changed and the things Maldivians should worry about have changed. Noting the swords and guns of the past have changed to ideological currents, President Solih stated the extremist ideologies have increased in the country. President Solih expressed he is most concerned about individuals not respecting each other's ideology.

Moreover, the president stated he does not believe the independence or the basic rights bestowed to Maldivians must be snatched even for a single moment. In the address, the president noted that a full independence can be experienced only by upholding the Islamic values and within the shade of the constitution. He also expressed that an independent environment is a right of every individual.
