Maumoon Hameed elected as the President of Maldives Bar Council

Prominent lawyer Maumoon Hameed has been elected as the President of Maldives Bar Council. He won after running against Husnu Al Suood, President of the Presidential Commission on the Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances.

Meanwhile, Abdulla Muizzu, who served as the Attorney General during the presidency of President Mohamed Nasheed, was elected as the Vice President of Maldives bar Council. He ran against Mohamed Haleem, a former judge in Maldives Civil Court.

The Maldives Bar Council makes up of a president, vice president, 6 executive committee members and the Attorney General of Maldives. All regulatory power related to Legal Professionals including issuing licenses and penalization falls within the mandate of the Bar Council.
