Maldivian Ambassador presents credentials to the US President

Ambassador of Maldives to the US Thilmeeza Hussain presents her Letter of Credence to US President Donald Trump.

After presenting her credentials at meeting held at the White House, in a tweet, Ambassador Thilmeeza said it was an honour to represent the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, as she presented her credentials President Trump at the White House. She thanked the US for the support given in strengthening democracy in Maldives and reaffirmed the close ties between both countries in the recent months.

Meanwhile, in a tweet, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid noted Thilmeeza is the first female Maldivian ambassador to the US, adding he looks forward to strengthening the Maldives-US relations under her ambassadorship.

Thilmeeza, who has a Master's of Science in Business Management from the Colorado Technical University, had been serving as Adjunct Professor of Sustainability at Ramapo College of New Jersey and as Co-Chair of the Socially and Economically Just Adaptation and Mitigation Team of the US Climate Action Network prior to her appointment. She also had served as Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations and as Non-Residential Deputy Maldivian Ambassador to the US and Canada.

Thilmeeza officially took over the responsibilities as the Ambassador to the US last May.
