President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed he had received a detailed investigative report on the murder of former Parliamentarian Dr. Afrasheem Ali and the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
Speaking at a press conference held at President's Office, President Solih said the presidential commissions have made significant progress during the past months. Elaborating the progress made by Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances, the president said he had received a detailed investigative report on two high profile cases.
Previously, President of the Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances Husnu Al Suood has stated the cases on the murder of blogger Yameen Rasheed and disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan will be forwarded to Prosecutor General's Office by the end of July.
The commission was convened by President Solih on his first day in office, November 17, 2018, to uphold the state's responsibilities in ensuring justice for all, by conducting independent enquiries into unresolved cases of murders and enforced disappearances that had occurred between January 1, 2012 and November 17, 2018.
Following the ratification of the Bill on Presidential Commissions, the two commissions now have the authority to summon and gather official statements from persons of interest and to request search and arrest warrants.
