Vice President of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Muawwiz Rasheed has been appointed as the President of the commission. The appointment was unanimously made by the members of the commission.
Muawwiz Rasheed was appointed as the President of ACC, following the resignation of Hassan Luthufee from the position. Luthufee resigned after the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions approved to remove him from the commission. He had failed to attend work but had been taking salaries and other benefits for 8 months when he resigned.
Furthermore, Maldives Police Service investigated links between Luthufee and a money laundering scandal, in which former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had a hand in the corruption scandal of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
