President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the administration would ensure the independence and sovereignty of Maldives are safeguarded and would prioritise the development of the country by establishing deeper ties with friendly nations and well-wishers of the country. The president made the remarks while meeting with the Maldivian community residing in Singapore. President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed are currently on a state visit to Singapore.
Highlighting the longstanding historic relations between the Maldives and Singapore, President Solih noted Singapore has been a close development partner of Maldives. The president highlighted the visit is intended to strengthen the existing bilateral ties and reinvigorate the cooperation between the two countries on a myriad of fields with the signing of two memorandum of understandings (MoUs).
Moreover, the president noted since the first day, the administration has been working tirelessly on improving foreign relations between Maldives and other nations. He further reiterated the administration would not allow even an ounce of disruption to the independence of the country.
Emphasising on the efforts of the administration in restoring the connections with foreign parties, President Solih shed light on efforts to re-join The Commonwealth and stated once Maldives resumes the membership of the organisation, all benefits and assistance being provided prior to the cease of membership would once again be received to the country.
Moreover, the president highlighted a lot of Maldivians are currently employed in technical posts in Singapore which resonates well on the country and commended them on the talent they have acquired. He also mentioned the work carried out by the Maldivian Embassy in Singapore to create an online platform to provide their services and ease the different processes for Maldivians residing in the country.
