President departs on state visit to Singapore

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has departed on a state visit to Singapore. President Solih, First Lady Fazna Ahmed and the accompanying delegation is visiting to Singapore on an invitation from President of Singapore Halimah Yacob.

The president is scheduled to meet individually with the President of Singapore Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong respectively, for talks which will reflect the current status of relations and illuminate further avenues for constructive engagement.

The president will also attend a banquet hosted by the President of Singapore in his honour, and is scheduled to meet with members of the Maldivian community, where they will be welcome to share their perspectives and concerns pertinent to their experiences in Singapore.

During the visit, the president will also be escorted to site visits at Singapore's ISD Counter-Terrorism Centre, and Pulau Semaku Landfill managed by Singapore's National Environment Agency in order to better avail Maldives on Singapore's expertise in security and waste management.

The trip is intended to strengthen bilateral ties with Singapore, and reinvigorate cooperation with Singapore on a myriad of fields ranging from security and trade to health and education collaboration, among other spheres.
