State receives USD 18.776 million as Green Tax

The state has received USD 18.776 million as Green Tax in May. The highest amount of Green Tax in May was received from hotels, guesthouses and resorts operated in Kaafu Atoll.

In May, the state received over USD 18.776 million as Green Tax, which is an increase of 7% compared to USD 5.3 million received last April, according to statistics from Ministry of Finance.

The statistics showed Kaafu Atoll contributed the largest amount as Green Tax with USD 1.870 million. The second highest amount was recorded from Alifu Dhaalu Atoll with USD 649,595, while the third highest amount was received from Alifu Alifu Atoll, which was USD 376,765.

Moreover, Green Tax from resorts amounted from USD 4.579 million, while guesthouses and hotels paid USD 201,374 and USD 103,935 US dollars respectively. Furthermore, in May USD 149,406 was received as Green Tax from safaris.

Green Tax is payable by tourists who stay in tourist resorts, tourist hotels, tourist vessels and guest houses. Green Tax is payable at the rate of USD 6 per day of stay from tourist resorts, tourist hotels and tourist vessels, and USD 3 per day of stay from tourist guesthouses. Maldivians and resident permit holders are not required to pay Green Tax.
