Resort development project in Innafushi halted

Ministry of Tourism has decided to temporarily halt the resort development project conducted in Innafushi in Baa Atoll. The decision of the ministry comes amid a social media outbreak regarding the resort development in the island.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed said the government aims to develop tourism without destroying the environment. He noted location of Innafushi contains significant features in terms of environment.

Meanwhile, the minister highlighted the Innafushi was leased to be developed as a resort in 2017 within the regulations and the contractor paid USD 90,661 US dollars to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) as acquisition cost. He assured the contractor will be compensated by the government.
