Parliament of Maldives has passed to investigate any negligence by Maldives Police Service regarding the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
The parliament passed the amendment proposed by Parliamentarian Hisaan Hussain to the report submitted by Committee on Security Services. Three matters relating to the case were sent to the parliament for further study, including identifying the reasons behind the delay of a police investigation.
The proposition made by Hisaan said the mandate of the presidential commission does not allow it to investigate police negligence cases, adding the parliament must investigate the negligence of police during the investigation in to Rilwan's disappearance.
The proposal put forward by Hisaan was backed by Parliamentarian Jeehaan Mahmood and the motion was passed unanimously by 65 votes.
