Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has inaugurated the establishment of water system in Foakaidhoo in Shaviyani atoll funded by Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The GCF has granted over USD 2 million for the project. The project was launched last November and was contracted to Canadian Crystalline Water India Limited. A water purification system will established in the island, along with a water storing tank, as part of the project.
Under the GCF fund, water systems are established in Dharavandhoo in Baa Atoll, Maduvvari in Raa Atoll and Nolhivaramfaru in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. These projects will be concluded by next November, according to environment ministry. GCF has granted USD 23 million in 2017, to establish water facilities in the islands.
