Indian Prime Minister and Maldives Vice President Reaffirm Commitment to Stronger Cooperation

India and Maldives have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in a range of sectors during a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef on Saturday.

During a courtesy call on Prime Minister Modi, the Vice President and Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strong, cordial ties between the two nations, founded on mutual trust, shared history, and deep-rooted people-to-people connections. The discussions emphasised the importance of advancing capacity-building initiatives, empowering youth through mobilisation efforts, and strengthening partnerships in the health sector.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on his official X account stating that the discussions had centered on the important pillars of the longstanding friendship between India and the Maldives. He also highlighted areas of mutual interest and shared benefit.

“Had a very good meeting with Vice President Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef. Our discussion touched upon key pillars of the India-Maldives friendship. Our nations continue to work closely in sectors like infrastructure, technology, climate change, energy and more. This is greatly beneficial to our people. We look forward to deepening this partnership in the years to come,” Prime Minister Modi wrote.

Prime Minister arrived in the Maldives on Friday for a two-day State Visit at the invitation of Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. He is scheduled to depart from the Maldives on Saturday evening.
