State Minister at MCST resigns from the post

A state minister has resigned claiming solutions have not been found for concerns regarding corruption.

The resignation was submitted by Minister of State for Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Shaafiee. He was appointed as a state minister last December. This is the first time a senior figure resigned from the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

In a tweet announcing his resignation, Shaafiee raised concerns over a software project being developed for the 25-storey Dharumavantha Hospital. In a previous tweet, he raised questions whether the zero-tolerance corruption policy is a farce. Furthermore, he revealed there was no reason to draw a salary when matters he escalated were ignored and unaddressed by the government.

Although the current administration has acknowledged corrupt acts took place during the awarding, construction and development of Dharumavantha Hospital, which was a multi-million dollar project launched by the previous presidency, no action has so far been taken against the perpetrators.
