PPM receives USD 600,000 from the state

Ministry of Finance has released the allowances entitled to Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) from the state budget. USD 600,000 to PPM was released three days after the request from Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM), according to the finance ministry.

Meanwhile, allowances to all other political parties except PPM was released on June 9. Previously, the finance ministry revealed the funds for PPM was held as ECM did not send requests to issue the funds.

The state has allocated close to USD 1.7 million for all political parties with a membership of at least 10,000 by the end of last year. Along with PPM, the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP) and Maldivian Development Alliance (MDA) are subjected to funds from the state.

Meanwhile, MDP is subjected to largest portion, which is 825,503, while JP and MDA has been allocated 133,381 and 131,555 respectively.

The allowances from the state budget were deposited after cutting off USD 6,151 of MDP and USD 3,885 of PPM as fines, according to ECM.
