Ministry of Environment has launched the National Action Plan on Air Pollutant. The National Action Plan on Air Pollutant was launched by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula.

The National Action Plan on Air Pollutant, the first of its kind in Maldives, is a research plan compiled to identify the risk of pollution, measures taken against air pollution and to inquire what the government has planned to reduce air pollution.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan stated the rate of air pollution is low in Maldives compared to other countries. The minister added, however, due to the increase of vehicles and other factors the rate of air pollution is increasing gradually. He noted the rate is higher than the rate allocated in World Health Organisation (WHO).

Speaking at the ceremony, Transport Minister Nahula expressed hope important efforts will be exerted within the plan to minimise air pollution in Maldives.

The plan will be monitored and implemented by Ministry of Environment with the technical assistance of Stockholm Environment Institute and financial assistance from Green Air Coalition.
