Projects to commence in 118 islands, projects already begun in 41 islands

The Government of Maldives has stated preparations are underway to commence projects in 118 islands, while projects have already begun in 41 islands.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson at the President's Office, Chief Communication Strategist Ibrahim Hood slammed the comments stating the progress of the administration is slow. Hood said no administration was able to begin huge development projects within the first 6 months of its term, citing statistics of the administrations of the past 10 years.

Noting development projects of the administration will begin in June, the spokesperson stated as infrastructure development projects for all the islands have been budgeted, the commencement of the projects are in various stages. In this regard, he said designing, tendering and contracting are underway for the projects earmarked to begin in 117 islands, adding projects in 41 islands have already begun.

Moreover, the spokesperson expressed when the administration took office last November, many have criticised that opportunity was not given to express views on public related issues. However, Hood added the public have proven against the criticism, expressing the public expressed their views on the student loan issue and electricity tariff hike most recently. He highlighted the expression of opinion as a positive growth, noting the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have now requested to ease the provision of services to public.

Furthermore, during the press conference, Hood announced the housing projects of the administration will be introduced within the next two months.
