Under a project being implemented by Fenaka Corporation to provide essential services to newly inhabited areas across various islands of the Maldives, electricity services have now been provided to newly populated areas on four islands.
Delays in providing utility services to newly allocated land and areas developed through land reclamation have been a major concern for residents.
The islands where electricity has been provided under the project are Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll; Nolhivaranfaru, Haa Dhaalu Atoll; Buruni, Thaa Atoll and Thimarafushi, Thaa Atoll.
Of these islands, Fenaka said all work required to provide electricity to the newly populated area of Fonadhoo was completed by the end of June. Arrangements have been made to provide electricity to 80 housing plots in the area. Electricity has also already been provided to 48 housing plots in the newly populated area of Buruni.
Network extension works required to provide electricity to 100 housing units constructed in Nolhivaranfaru and Thimarafushi were also completed during the past year. Under the project, 825 metres of low-voltage cable were laid in Nolhivaranfaru and 12 distribution boxes were installed.
Fenaka said a major portion of the work to provide electricity to newly populated areas in R. Maakurathu and Vaadhoo in the same atoll has also been completed. The remaining works are being expedited, with the necessary work to provide permanent electricity services currently under way.
Fenaka said its main objective is to ensure that residents living in newly populated areas of the islands receive essential services as quickly as possible, without facing any difficulties.
