President returns to Maldives upon conclusion of OIC Summit

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has arrived back in Maldives following the conclusion of the 14th High-Level Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Mecca, Saudi Arabia on May 31.

The OIC Summit, held every three years, gathers together the leaders of Muslim-majority countries so that they can offer their perspectives, grievances, and solutions as it pertains to the issues confronted by Muslims the world over. During the summit, Muslim leaders expounded on the need to confront twin menaces of Islamophobia and religious extremism. They also deliberated on the best path to resolve the geopolitical issues in the Middle Eastern region, amicably and in good faith, and further discussed the myriad contemporary issues faced by Muslims everywhere.

In the statement submitted to the OIC, President Solih highlighted Maldives places a high priority on resolving the global challenges facing Muslims, and re-iterated the Maldives' consistent support for Muslim causes, among which support for the Palestinian right to their own homeland features prominently.

As the Muslim World prepares for the upcoming Eid celebrations, marking the end of the holy month Ramadan, President Solih enjoins Muslim leaders and adherents of the great faith to pray for the future peace, success, and well-being of the global Islamic community.
