MIRA yet to receive over USD 387,000 from court cases

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has stated over USD 387,000 must be received to the authority last month from the cases submitted at Civil Court alone. In May, five cases were concluded in favour of the tax administration authority, according to statistics of MIRA.

The most number of cases were concluded with the court ordering the companies to pay the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to MIRA. The cases concluded in May consist of failing to pay GST and two cases over the failure to pay rent. From these cases alone, MIRA must receive over USD 322,000.

MIRA exerts efforts to retrieve the money owed by businesses to the state via the court if the payments are not made within the procedure.
