Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has congratulated the newly appointed Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
In his message, the foreign minister extended heartiest congratulations on the appointment Subrahmanyam Jaishankar as the external affairs minister. The foreign minister highlighted Maldives and India have a long-standing relationship; built on mutual trust, mutual respect, and shared interests, adding both Maldives and India are charting a new course in bilateral cooperation, exploring new areas and strengthening existing avenues.
Moreover, the foreign minister expressed confidence that with the new minister's experience and extensive knowledge of Maldives-India relations, the work will move forward with renewed vigour and energy. Shahid said he valued the efforts of Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to strengthen cooperation between two countries in the past in his capacity as the foreign secretary.
The foreign minister expressed hope to meeting the new external affairs minister once again and discuss ways in which working on revitalising the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries can be continued.
