India grant financial support to conduct two projects

The Government of India has granted financial support to Government of Maldives to conduct two projects.

In this regard, Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced India has granted USD 498,571 to Maldives to purchase and deliver land ambulances to hospitals and health centres across Maldives. Under the grant assistance, the Maldivian Government will distribute 11 ambulances across Maldives while the government is committed to improving health services across the country including improving the accessibility of services. The ambulance services provide immediate and effective life-saving care in a safe and clinical working environment with maximum mobility.

Furthermore, ensuring that each island has an ambulance and effective ambulatory services is a pledge of the government. In addition, according to the foreign ministry, Indian Government has also granted USD 517,996 to Maldives to procure outdoor fitness equipment to be installed in islands across the Maldives. Under the grant assistance, the government will install outdoor gym equipment in 61 islands.

The purpose of the project is to promote healthy lifestyles and fight the burden of non-communicable diseases in the Maldives, in support of the election pledge by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The grant assistance was provided through the USD 6.9 million granted to Maldives by India during the visit of the Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj last March. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact.
