Foreign minister holds sideline meetings with international partners

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has held separate meetings with a number of bilateral partners on the side-lines of the Preparatory Meeting for the 14th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit.

On the side-lines of the Foreign Ministers meeting held ahead of the 14th summit of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Abulkalam Abdul Momen. During the meeting, Minister Momen thanked Maldives for its support on the Rohingya issue and explored areas of further cooperation on a wide range of issues.

Foreign Minister Shahid met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Ayman Safadi and discussed ways on further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Discussions were also held on the possibility of visa free travel between two countries and areas of mutual cooperation.

Furthermore, Minister Shahid met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Retno Marsud and discussed mutual areas of interest and cooperation. During the meeting held on the side-lines of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting, Maldives reiterated its policy to grant visa on arrival for Indonesian citizens to visit Maldives and discussed ways in which both countries can enhance cooperation both bilaterally and in the multilateral arena.

Minister Shahid also met with the Foreign Minister of Egypt Sameh Hassan Shoukry discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. Further discussions were held on Maldives' intention to open a consulate in Jeddah in the near future.

Moreover, Minister Shahid met with the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Negara Brunei Darussalam and discussed steps to further enhance bilateral cooperation and assistance.

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid met with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Adel Al Jubeir. During the meeting, foreign minister expressed gratitude towards the development assistance provided by Saudi Arabia and extended hope to further strengthening ties between the two brotherly nations.
