President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed new Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed to Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The appointment was made under Article 158(h) of the Constitution of Maldives and Article 3(1) of the Judicial Service Act. President Solih presented the letter of appointment to Nasheed. Prior to the presentation of the letter of appointment, Nasheed took the oath of membership of JSC. The oath was administered by Chief Justice Hon. Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi.
During the meeting held at the President's Office, President Solih expressed the new constitution was through the hard work of many people and it has high expectation of them. The president said the duties of the speaker are very important and expressed his confidence that he would carry his work smoothly and fairly. Additionally, he assured the government would extend its full cooperation to the Parliament.
At the meeting, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed said he would consult all members of the Parliament individually and collectively with all political parties in fulfilling his duties. Further, he said that he would cooperate with the government in implementing policies that are of national interest.
