President congratulates Prime Minister Modi following his victory in Indian General Elections

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has offered congratulations to the Bharatiya Janaata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narenda Modi, for the resounding victory achieved in the Indian General Elections 2019.

In his message, President Solih said the citizens of India have made their verdict known and have entrusted the Modi administration to continue their mandate to the Indian public. The president expressed his optimism that his administration can continue to positively engage with Prime Minister Modi and his government on issues of mutual benefit to both countries and thanked the prime minister in particular for the emphasis he has given to the safety and security of the Indian Ocean Region in his foreign policy. He further expressed Maldives is committed to continuing our cooperation with India for the benefit of the entire region.

Furthermore, President Solih noted general elections in India represents the world’s largest exercise in peaceful democracy, an accomplishment that should justifiably be held in pride by Indian citizens who for several decades have exercised their constitutional rights to choose their representatives and leadership, in record numbers each time. The president ended his message by reiterating his commitment to positively collaborate with the Indian Government and his hope that he can welcome Prime Minister Modi to the Maldives once again to continue bilateral dialogues at the highest level.
