India extends support to construct an international convention centre

The Government of India has granted USD 507,000 to the Government of Maldives to construct an International Convention Centre in Ukulhas in Alifu Alifu Atoll.

The objective of the project is provide a venue for the local council, guest house owners and business communities to host conferences thereby promoting Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE). Presently, there are such limited facilities in the atolls.

The grant assistance has been provided through the USD 6.5 million granted to the Government of Maldives by the Government of India during the visit of the Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj in March 2019. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact.
