Import rise by 14% in April

The value of goods imported during April has increased by 9% to that of the same period last year. It is an increase from USD 909,809 in April last year to USD 981,636 in April this year, according to statistics of Maldives Customs Service.

As per statistics, the largest quantity of the imports in April this year was from UAE which is 23% of the total imports and China coming at second with 16% of the total imports. Moreover, the total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during April this year increased by 14% compared to same period last year. Over USD 71.8 million was collected through customs duty last month.

Meanwhile, value of goods exported during April decreased by 14% compared to April last year. About USD 90.2 million worth of goods were exported during April last year, whereas this year the figure was recorded at USD 77.5 million. Among the top exporting countries, Thailand was recorded the highest with 46% and US at the second with 13% of the total exports.
