Shiuree steps down as Managing Director of Visit Maldives

Ibrahim Shiuree has resigned from his role as Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), the state-owned firm tasked with promoting the nation’s tourism sector.

The resignation, announced on 24 August, comes without an official explanation.

Shiuree was appointed to the position on 13 June 2024, bringing with him a blend of marketing expertise and public‑relations acumen. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in public relations. Prior to leading Visit Maldives, Shiuree served on the Board of Directors of the Maldives Hajj Corporation and the Maldives Association of Construction Industry (MACI).

During his tenure at VMC, Shiuree oversaw several initiatives aimed at revitalising Maldives tourism, including targeted digital campaigns, partnership expansions with international travel operators, and efforts to diversify the Maldives’ tourism offerings.
