PG appeals to overturn verdict regarding unfreezing of Yameen's accounts

Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham has revealed the state has appealed the High Court verdict which calls to unfreeze the bank accounts for former President Abdulla Yameen.

Speaking with PSM News, Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham said the Prosecutor General’s Office has highlighted legal issues with the case and filed an appeal with the Supreme Court. Yameen's bank accounts were frozen awaiting a verdict in the money laundering charges pressed against him.

However, later on, High Court reversed the Criminal Court verdict that ordered Yameen's detention and the verdict that ordered his accounts to be frozen. A hearing of the trial with regard to the money laundering charges pressed against former president has been scheduled at the Supreme Court. The case would be heard by the full strength of the Supreme Court bench, including Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi.

The Prosecutor General added an appeal of the High Court's reversal of the Criminal Court verdict that ordered Yameen's detention have also been filed separately.
