Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has met with the Secretary of State and Head of Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania Raed Arafat.
At the meeting held at Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania, both Minister Shahid and Minister Arafat discussed cooperation in the areas of disaster management and emergency response. Arafat expressed the readiness of Romania to cooperate in capacity building in these areas.
Moreover, Foreign Minister Shahid met with Vice Prime Minister for Romania’s Strategic Partnership’s Implementation Ana Birchall. At the meeting held at the Victoria Palace, Office of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Shahid and Vice Prime Minister Birchall discussed the existing bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen cooperation between two countries. Minister Shahid also congratulated the fulfilling role undertaken by Romania as the President of the Council of the European Union.
Minister Shahid and the Vice Prime Minister also discussed about cooperation initiatives to enhance collaboration between Maldives and Romania in areas such as healthcare service, disaster risk management, trade investments, education, information technology and countering terrorism and violent extremism. Minister Shahid also expressed the desire of Government of Maldives to further promote fish products in the European markets.
Furthermore, the Maldivian minister met Secretary of the State of Business Environment of Romania, Gabriela Mihaela Voicilă. During the meeting, discussions were focused on promotion of trade and commerce between the Maldives and Romania particularly in food industry, tourism and air connectivity.
During the meetings, Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fathimath Razana.
This November, the two countries will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
