Public cooperation needed to successfully counter terrorist activities

National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has said cooperation from the public is needed to successfully counter terrorist activities.

In a statement, NCTC urged the public to report any suspicious activity or person and any information regarding a terrorist threat. The centre assured the anonymity of the individual sharing the information would be protected. NCTC released the statement in the wake of terrorist attacks in neighbouring Sri Lanka on April 21 which left 257 people dead.

Since the attacks, security has been heightened in Maldives, with efforts underway by the security forces to identify whether there are any threats to Maldives following the bombings in Sri Lanka. However, the security forces maintain no information have been received so far about any threat or any possibility of threats to Maldives.

Highlighting fear of terrorism is shared by every country alike, security forces also appealed to refrain from sharing false information and hatred on social media.
