Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef has stated social issues cannot be solved by increasing the amount of government shelters but rather holding accountable the people in negligence. The gender minister made the remarks at the ceremony held at Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment to handover televisions to government shelters.
Addressing the ceremony, the gender minister expressed more work need to be done to protect the rights of the people in government shelters, adding building more shelters is not the solution. Highlighting the large number of people in shelters is worrisome in such a small country, Minister Shidhatha revealed there are 341 people including children in government shelters. She said efforts have been initiated since the new administration took office, to improve the standards of the shelters.
The 16 televisions donated by youth ministry were handed over by Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and received by Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef.
